When your project outgrows the standard NEMA 17, it’s time to upgrade to the NEMA 23. This stepper motor is the "heavy lifter" of the hobbyist CNC world, offering significantly more torque and power to drive heavier gantries, push through tougher materials, and maintain position under load.
While standard steppers are great for something like 3D printers, this NEMA 23 bipolar motor packs a massive 125 oz.in of holding torque, making it the ideal choice for desktop CNC milling machines, large plotters, and robust robotic arms.
These motors are specifically chosen for their compatibility with popular desktop CNC machines, such as the Shapeoko. If you are building your own CNC router or need a drop-in replacement for your existing machine's axes, this motor is up to the task.
We know that wiring larger machines can be a hassle. That’s why these motors come equipped with extra-long 600mm (approx. 23.5") AWG22 wires. This extended length often eliminates the need for splicing or buying separate extension cables, making it easier to route wiring through drag chains to your controller board.
Despite its raw power, this motor retains the precision you expect. It divides a full rotation into 200 steps (1.8° step angle). When paired with a modern microstepping driver, you can achieve incredibly smooth motion and sub-millimetre positioning accuracy without the need for complex encoders or feedback loops.
