The SparkFun BME680 Environmental Sensor combines a petrol sensor with temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure sensing to give you a complete environmental monitoring solution in a single package. The onboard petrol sensor can detect a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making it an excellent choice for monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ). Combined with precise temperature, humidity, and pressure tracking, the BME680 functions as a completely standalone environmental sensor within a compact 1-inch by 1-inch footprint.
Because we routed the BME680’s default I2C interface directly to our solderless Qwiic connectors, integrating this robust sensor into your existing ecosystem is incredibly fast and error-free. If your project requires a traditional breadboard layout or you need the increased versatility of SPI communication, all essential I2C and SPI pins are also conveniently broken out to standard 0.1-inch spaced headers.

Please be aware that calculating actual indoor air quality from raw BME680 data can be a complex task! For precise IAQ measurements, we highly recommend utilising Bosch's Sensortec Environmental Cluster (BSEC) Software. If you prefer a sensor that provides more direct IAQ outputs out of the box, consider the SparkFun ENS160/BME280 Environmental Combo Breakout instead.
