The SparkFun Environmental Combo Breakout takes care of all your atmospheric and indoor air quality sensing needs by combining two industry-leading ICs on a single board: the ScioSense ENS160 and the Bosch Sensortec BME280! Whether you are building a smart HVAC system, a weather station, or an indoor air quality monitor, this unique two-in-one breakout provides a comprehensive picture of the air you breathe.

Two Sensors, Working in Harmony

The true magic of this combo board is how these two chips interact. The ENS160 requires accurate temperature and humidity data to precisely calibrate its air quality readings—and the BME280 is sitting right next to it, ready to provide exactly that.

  • The ENS160 (Air Quality): Replaces the popular CCS811, providing highly accurate readings for equivalent CO2 (eCO2) in parts per million, Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs) in parts per billion, and a standard Air Quality Index (AQI).
  • The BME280 (Atmospheric): A tried-and-true environmental sensor that measures ambient temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure (which can also be used to calculate absolute altitude).

Plug-and-Play I2C Integration

To make capturing all this data as effortless as possible, communication is handled exclusively via I2C utilising our plug-and-play Qwiic system. You can connect it to your favourite microcontroller ecosystem without ever needing to touch a soldering iron. For makers who prefer a traditional breadboard setup, we have fully broken out the standard 0.1-inch spaced pins. We even included selectable I2C address jumpers on the back of the board, giving you the flexibility to easily configure your hardware for complex, multi-sensor networks without IP conflicts.
