The SparkFun BME688 Environmental Sensor is a breakout that combines a petrol sensor with temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure sensing in a single package. The BME688's petrol sensor can detect a wide variety of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), volatile sulphur compounds (VSCs), and other gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the part-per-billion (ppb) range. Combine that with precise temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure, and the BME688 can work as a completely standalone environmental sensor all in a 1in. x 1in. breakout!
The BME688 serves as a drop-in replacement for the BME680 and builds on the previous sensor by adding intelligent petrol-scanning capabilities. While standard sensors simply detect the presence of gases, this Bosch sensor generates unique profiles for different petrol mixtures. Because we routed the default I2C interface to our solderless Qwiic connectors, integrating this powerhouse sensor into your existing setup is incredibly fast and error-free. If you prefer a traditional breadboard layout or need the versatility of SPI communication, all essential pins are conveniently broken out to standard 0.1-inch spaced headers.
