Description

Measuring high-voltage AC current doesn't have to mean splicing into live, dangerous wires. This non-invasive current sensor, also known as a split-core current transformer or current clamp, lets you measure exactly how much current is passing through an electrical load by simply clamping it around the supply line. By acting as an inductor, the coil responds to the magnetic field generated by the current-carrying conductor, providing a safe and highly effective way to monitor your power usage.

Perfect for Energy Monitoring

Rated to comfortably measure loads up to 30 Amps, this sensor is an excellent choice for a wide variety of DIY electronics and power management projects including:

  • Home Energy Monitors: Track your power usage in real time to keep your electricity bills down.
  • Safety Devices: Build custom over-current protection systems for specific AC loads or machinery.
  • Non-Invasive Setups: The split-core design and >10mm opening mean you never have to cut or modify your existing wiring.

Please keep in mind that this specific sensor does not include a built-in burden resistor! Because it outputs current rather than voltage, you will need to place an appropriate resistor across the output leads to convert the coil's induced current into a measurable voltage that your microcontroller can read.
