Description

This tiny electret microphone is an excellent choice for adding basic acoustic sensing and audio input to your electronics projects. As an omnidirectional foil electret, it easily picks up ambient sound from all directions, making it useful for voice detection, sound-reactive lighting, or custom noise-monitoring applications.

Because this is a bare component, it is incredibly flexible to design around:

  • Wide Voltage Range: Operates reliably anywhere from 1.0V to 10.0V DC, making it easily compatible with a variety of low-voltage microcontrollers and audio circuits.
  • Power Efficient: With a maximum current draw of just 0.5 mA, it is well-suited for battery-powered and low-power devices.

Something to keep in mind about this microphone is that it lacks built-in capacitors and will require a small amount of external circuitry to operate correctly. You'll need to provide an external loading resistor (max 2.2kΩ) to properly bias the microphone and read the audio signal.

However, if you'd like to avoid picking the right resistor and most of the complicated breadboarding, we also offer this microphone on a simple 3-pin breakout board!
