SparkFun RFID USB Reader

Reading 125kHz RFID tags doesn't have to involve complex wiring or confusing code. The SparkFun RFID USB Reader is a simple USB-to-serial base unit designed specifically for the ID-12LA and ID-20LA reader modules from ID Innovations. Measuring just 1.4 by 1.2 inches, this reader takes up minimal space on your workbench or inside a custom enclosure.

While most ID Innovations modules have an internal antenna, ID-3XX modules will likely require an external antenna to function. Users should consult with the module's datasheet before purchasing.

Easy RFID Integration

Getting started with the RFID USB Reader is incredibly straightforward! Simply plug your compatible reader into the 2mm-spaced SMD headers, connect a mini-B USB cable, and open your preferred terminal program at 9600bps 8N1. When you scan a tag, the unique 32-bit ID will immediately populate on your screen.

• Visual and Audio Feedback: Features an onboard read LED and a magnetic buzzer that provide instant confirmation of a successful scan.
• Stealth Mode: If your project requires silent operation, you can easily disable the audio feedback by clearing the solder bridge on the BUZZ jumper.

Please note that this base unit does NOT include an RFID reader module, which will need to be purchased separately. If you are looking for an alternative connection standard, we also offer an updated USB-C version of this board with additional configuration options.
