Description

The ESP-VoCat is an AI voice interaction development kit built around the ESP32-S3, combining wireless connectivity, a circular touchscreen, microphone array, speaker, and battery support into a compact platform for developing voice-enabled and AI-powered devices. The ESP-VoCat is designed for applications such as AI assistants, smart speakers, interactive toys, desktop robots, and smart home controllers, and supports offline voice wake-up, sound source localisation, and cloud-based AI services.

Hardware and Processing Capabilities

The ESP-VoCat's main controller uses the Espressif ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R16VA module, delivering 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5 (LE) for seamless connectivity. Espressif has included 16MB of PSRAM and 16MB of Flash storage to handle the comprehensive voice interaction and multimedia processing. It's also equipped with a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB of expandable memory that can provide you with plenty of space for local audio files and configuration data!

ESP-VoCat is Interactive

Even the hardware on the ESP-VoCat integrates several specialised input and output features. These help provide an intuitive user experience for smart home interfaces and its own interactive capabilities:

  • Responsive Interface: A 1.85-inch circular QSPI touchscreen with a 360 x 360 resolution provides a surprising amount of colour.
  • Motion Sensing: An onboard IMU and touch sensor track movement orientation and tactile responses.
  • Advanced Audio Input: A dual-microphone array enables local, offline voice wake-up with accurate sound-source localisation.
  • Built-In Output: An integrated 3W speaker delivers clear audio responses directly from the device.

Power and Expansion

Powering your AI hardware is straightforward with compatibility for both 5V DC via the USB-C interface and portable 3.7V lithium batteries. A reserved PogoPin interface enables convenient functional expansion for developers looking to build custom integrations. Finally, Espressif provides ESP-Brookesia software support and examples for developing AI interaction applications, including integrations with services such as OpenAI, Gemini, and Xiaozhi AI.
