Encoders

Rotary and magnetic encoders convert rotation into electronic signals, providing position, direction, and speed feedback for robotics, sensing, automation, and embedded projects. They come in incremental forms, which generate a pulse stream you interpret with a microcontroller, and absolute forms, which report a definite position on power up. Variants include mechanical, magnetic, and optical sensing, with options such as a built-in switch, illumination, or rugged sealing for harsher environments.

Interfaces range from breadboard-friendly breakouts to digital serial buses like I2C or SPI, easing integration with common controllers. This mix enables scalable resolution, reliable feedback, and smooth control in motor systems, user interfaces, and automated experiments.
