SparkFun Inventor's Kit for Arduino Uno - v4.1

Build 16 interconnected circuits across five projects, culminating in an autonomous robot, with this accessible, no-soldering Arduino starter kit designed for ages 10 and up.

Description

The SparkFun Inventor's Kit (SIK) is, to put it simply, one of the best ways to get started with programming and hardware interaction using the Arduino programming language. This comprehensive kit includes everything you need to complete five overarching projects, totalling 16 interconnected circuits that teach everything from blinking a simple LED to reading environmental sensors. The culminating project is your very own fully autonomous robot! Best of all, no previous programming, electronics, or soldering experience is required to get started.

The Ultimate Project-Based Learning Experience

With the v4.1 version of the SIK, we took an entirely different approach to teaching embedded electronics. Instead of isolated circuits that introduce a new piece of technology in a vacuum, components are introduced in the context of the circuit you are actively building. Each circuit builds upon the concepts of the last, leading up to a final project that incorporates everything you have learnt.

  • Comprehensive Online Guide: Step-by-step instructions, detailed circuit diagrams, hookup tables, and full example code are provided online.
  • Point-of-Use Explanations: We explain new components and concepts right when you need them, complete with troubleshooting tips to get you unstuck if something goes wrong.
  • No Soldering Required: Recommended for beginners ages 10 and up, making it a perfectly safe and accessible Arduino starter kit.

Designed for Makers

This specific version of the SIK was created with familiarity and portability in mind. It replaces the standard SparkFun RedBoard Qwiic with the classic and widely popular Arduino Uno (SMD version) and completely removes the heavy printed SIK guidebook and carrying case. By swapping these components and using our online documentation, we significantly reduced the kit's overall size and weight. This makes shipping much cheaper and easier while still delivering the exact same project-based learning experience! These changes make it especially ideal for our international customers.

The online guidebook and experiment guide each feature the SparkFun RedBoard Qwiic instead of an Arduino Uno - R3 SMD. At the heart of each is the ATmega328p microcontroller, giving both the same functionality underneath the bonnet. You can complete all 16 experiments in these guides with either kit.
