SparkFun Thing Plus - RP2350

The SparkFun RP2350 Thing Plus is a dynamic and powerful wireless development platform built to be the new heart of your IoT projects. It combines the revolutionary Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller with their RM2 radio module, integrating them seamlessly into our popular Thing Plus form factor.

This board comes fully loaded with all the standard hardware you expect from a Thing Plus, including onboard LiPo battery charging, a fuel gauge, a micro-SD card slot, and a Qwiic connector. This combination of processing flexibility, complete wireless connectivity, and robust power management makes it the ideal platform for a massive variety of applications, from local sensor nodes to remote, battery-powered IoT devices.

The RP2350: Unprecedented Core Flexibility

The star of the show is the Raspberry Pi RP2350, a unique dual-core, dual-architecture microcontroller. This chip provides a unique setup that allows you to select, in software, which cores you want to run:

• A pair of Arm® Cortex-M33 cores
• A pair of Hazard3 RISC-V cores
• Or one of each!

All cores are capable of running at up to 150 MHz. This isn't a quad-core MCU; instead, you select at boot which two processors you want to run, allowing you to develop and test on two different architectures with a single board. The RP2350 also features 520kB of SRAM, two UARTs, two SPI controllers, two I²C controllers, and a USB 1.1 controller for host and device support.

Seamless Wireless & Abundant Memory

For true IoT capability, the board integrates the Raspberry Pi Radio Module (RM2). With ample memory at its disposal, this Thing+ can utilise all its features, including the RM2, which provides robust wireless connectivity.

• Raspberry Pi RM2 Radio Module: For true IoT capability, the board integrates the RM2, providing single-band 2.4GHz WiFi 4 (802.11n) and Bluetooth® 5.2 (supporting BLE, Basic Data Rate, and Enhanced Data Rate). We've designed this board to use the same SPI pins for the radio as official Raspberry Pi boards, ensuring easy software compatibility.
• Massive Memory: The board is equipped with 16MB of external Flash and 8MB of PSRAM connected to the RP2350's QSPI controller, providing ample room for complex applications and large data buffers.

Packed with Thing Plus Features

This board is built for projects that leave the desktop. The Thing Plus form factor (which shares the Feather pinout) includes a host of essential hardware:

• LiPo Battery Management: An onboard JST connector, charging circuit, and MAX17048 fuel gauge let you safely charge and monitor a LiPo battery for portable projects.
• Qwiic Connector: The built-in Qwiic connector gives you plug-and-play access to the entire SparkFun Qwiic ecosystem of sensors, displays, and actuators.
• Micro-SD Card Slot: The micro-SD socket provides a simple way to add massive data logging capabilities or store configuration files.

Multi-Platform Software Support

The RP2350 Thing+ is built for all developers. It has full software support for C/C++ using the Raspberry Pi Pico SDK, MicroPython, CircuitPython, and the Arduino environment, so you can choose the programming language and environment you prefer.
