Accelerometers, gyros and compasses provide motion, rotation and magnetic heading data for navigation, stabilisation, motion tracking and orientation estimation. They appear as single sensors, combined inertial measurement units or full attitude and heading reference systems that may also include a barometric altimeter for altitude sensing.
Key attributes include sensor sensitivity and bandwidth, sample rate and noise performance, digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI or serial, and onboard features like voltage regulation or ready-made breakout layouts. Some modules include sensor fusion firmware for direct orientation output, while others expose raw axes data for custom filtering and calibration approaches.
