The SparkFun Inventor's Kit is the best Arduino beginners kit available. It has a whole range of real electronics components that you will learn to use by following the included step by step instructions. Then you can do your own thing creating projects that use LCD screen, LED lights, motors, relays and various sensors. Ideal as a gift for ages 10 and up and for education.

Arduino is the largest open source microcontroller ecosystem. There is a huge community of people from science nerds to visual artists who use the free software and inexpensive hardware to create interesting projects. Information on Arduino and forums with helpful folk abound.

No soldering is required. Circuits are wired up using the included breadboard and it all runs at a safe low voltage.

The full-color SIK Guidebook (included) contains step by step instructions of how to connect each circuit with the included parts. Full example code is provided and explained and even includes troubleshooting tips if something goes wrong.
