Description

If you are ready to step up your Arduino game from older 8-bit/16MHz microcontrollers, the SparkFun SAMD21 Dev Breakout is the perfect landing spot. Built around the powerful Atmel ATSAMD21G18, this board gives you the 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ performance of an Arduino Zero but in a feature-rich package designed by your friends here at SparkFun!

More Speed, More Space

The SAMD21 resolves the storage limits and dynamic memory stack overflows that often plague complex projects on standard Arduinos.

  • Fast & Spacious: Running at 48MHz with 256KB of Flash and 32KB of SRAM, this chip handles complex calculations and large libraries with ease.
  • Zero Compatibility: Because it uses the same processor as the Arduino Zero, it is fully supported by the Arduino IDE and compatible libraries right out of the box.

Power Flexibility & LiPo Charging

We used the extra PCB space to pack in features that make mobile projects easier. This breakout includes a 600mA 3.3V regulator and a dedicated LiPo battery connector with a built-in charger. You can also power your project via USB, and if it's unplugged, the board seamlessly switches to battery power!

  • Where's the Barrel Jack? The SAMD21 Dev Breakout includes a footprint for a DC barrel jack, but please note that the jack is not populated. You will need to purchase and solder one yourself if you require power from a wall adaptor.

Unlock the SERCOM

One of the SAMD21's most distinctive features is SERCOM, a set of six configurable serial interfaces. Unlike the fixed hardware UART/I2C/SPI pins on older boards, these interfaces can be multiplexed. This means you can turn a pin into a UART, I2C controller/peripheral, or SPI controller/peripheral, depending on your project's requirements, providing significant routing flexibility.
