The SparkFun BlueSMiRF v2 is a highly capable wireless Bluetooth® serial link designed to replace disorganised serial cables. BlueSMiRF acts as a wireless serial UART link, allowing you to easily pair, connect, and transmit data between your TX and RX lines. It seamlessly handles any serial stream from 2400 to 921600 baud, supporting full-duplex transmissions up to 921600 bps. You can even push massive amounts of data through this link, and it will still buffer, transmit, and deliver byte-perfect streams to both radios.
Perfect for short-range indoor applications up to 100 feet (33 meters), this board takes the headache out of point-to-point communication. Whether you are connecting to a phone, a computer, or another microcontroller, the BlueSMiRF v2 provides a dependable wireless connection that is incredibly easy to set up and operate.
This specific version of the BlueSMiRF v2 replaces standard pins and headers with a 6-pin JST-GH connector. Because it shares the exact same pinout and connector as the SiK Telemetry Radio V3 and the SparkFun LoRaSerial Kit, it can be wired into your system in the exact same manner. However, instead of radio frequency transmission, it bridges your hardware directly to your Bluetooth-enabled devices. For example, you can easily connect the BlueSMiRF v2 to high-precision GNSS breakout boards, including the LG290P, mosaic-G5 P3, ZED-X20P, and LG580P, then stream that location data directly to a Geographic Information System (GIS) app on your phone. We personally like to use an app like SW Maps.
We designed this board to be as user-friendly as possible, equipping it with several integrated features to streamline your workflow:
While Bluetooth Classic (Serial Port Profile or "SPP") is the primary supported protocol, making it highly compatible with Android devices and most desktops and laptops, BlueSMiRF v2 also supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for connecting with Apple devices and other low-power devices. With built-in status LEDs to monitor your connection and serial traffic, this board is an incredibly handy tool for cutting the cord on your advanced PNT projects.
