Multiplexers and I/O expanders let a single controller manage many analogue or digital signals without adding extra pins. By routing a common line to one of several channels, they enable reading multiple sensors, driving several actuators, or switching inputs with just a few control wires. Integrated circuits such as 16‑channel analogue/digital multiplexers or 8‑channel I²C switches resolve address conflicts when several devices share the same bus, allowing seamless expansion of sensor arrays or peripheral modules. GPIO expanders provide configurable digital pins over an I²C interface, turning two wires into a set of additional inputs or outputs. These devices are valued for their reliable switching, low‑pin‑count integration, and compatibility with common microcontroller platforms, making them ideal for compact, scalable robotics and automation projects.
