Electronic Sensors

Electronic sensors take measurements of the environment and translate them into digital or analog electronic signals.

Sensors are available for reading all kinds of information like distance, position (GPS), temperature, humidity, magnetic fields (compass), acceleration and gyroscopic tilt.

Sometimes these sensors are combined into single devices like inertial measurement unit (IMU) that can read all kinds of altitude and acceleration information to provide navigation for remotely operated vehicles or autonomous drones.

Communication with the sensors is typically over TTL Serial, I2C for digital sensors and via voltage changes for analog sensors.
