Description

0.1" connector custom cable

These wires with pre-crimped terminals are equivalent to our premium jumper wires without the 1×1 crimp connector housings on the ends. By combining these wires with our crimp connector housings, you can quickly and easily create custom cables with 0.1″ (2.54mm) connectors that mate with various 0.1″-spaced connectors, including male and female headers and solderless breadboards. Just pick the housing for the correct number of pins, pick the colors and genders for your wires, and snap them into the housings (note: it’s not easy to get the wires back out, so plan carefully!). No soldering is required!

You can easily make cable harnesses or assemblies that branch from one connector on one side to multiple connectors on the other (an example of this is shown in the picture to the right); you can also cut off one pre-crimped end and solder the wires directly to components to make swapping connections easy, as shown in the motor picture below.

The wires are available in six lengths—3″ (7.5 cm), 6″ (15 cm), 12″ (30 cm), 24″ (60 cm), 36″ (90 cm), and 60″ (150 cm)—and in ten colors:

  • brown
  • red
  • orange
  • yellow
  • green
  • blue
  • purple
  • grey
  • white

These are the same colors as those used on resistor colour codes and rainbow ribbon cable. The wire packs of different lengths include different quantities of wires. The table below shows the quantity included for a particular length-colour combination:

length monochromatic pack quantity rainbow pack quantity
3″ 10 50 (5 of each colour)
6″ 10 50 (5 of each colour)
12″ 10 50 (5 of each colour)
24″ 5 50 (5 of each colour)
36″ 5 20 (2 of each colour)
60″ 2 10 (1 of each colour)

Note that the monochromatic packs of 3″ wires are only available in six colors (black, red, yellow, green, blue, and white), but the 3″ rainbow packs contain five wires each of all ten colors; the monochromatic packs for all of the other wire lengths are available in all ten colors.

These wires can be purchased with male terminals on both ends, female terminals on both ends, or one male and one female terminals. These crimped terminals are designed for use with 0.1″ (2.54 mm) male headers and female headers, solderless breadboards, and prototyping PCBs. Note that we also sell the crimp pins by themselves if you want to crimp your own wires.

The following video talks about some of our various wire and cable options and includes a short demonstration of how to use these pre-crimped wires with our crimp connector housings:

One of our customers has made a very nice video that talks about how to make custom cables with these pre-crimped wires and with self-crimped wires made with our crimping tool. The section on using pre-crimped wires and crimp connector housings starts at around 2:00.

Short video tutorial on how to make custom cables (by customer Derek Molloy)
This video, created by customer Derek Molloy, discusses various options for making custom cables with our crimp connector housings, such as by using our pre-crimped wires or crimping your own with our wider crimping tool, though the same technique works with our narrower crimping tool as well. The section on using the crimping tool starts at around 4:15.
