SparkFun IoT RedBoard - ESP32-P4 (PoE)

The SparkFun ESP32-P4 IoT RedBoard is a high-performance development board engineered to tackle demanding edge computing and human-machine interfacing (HMI) applications over a wired connection. By pairing the processing power of Espressif's ESP32-P4 with on-board Power over Ethernet (PoE), this RedBoard provides a foundation for custom touch displays, camera integration, and advanced IoT projects that require reliable security features.

Next-Generation Processing and Memory

At the heart of the board lies the ESP32-P4NRW32X (or P4X), an upgraded dual-core RISC-V processor running at up to 400MHz for intensive tasks like image and voice processing. The P4X also includes an integrated low-power RISC-V core that runs at up to 40MHz for standby operations, and brings advanced memory subsystems directly to your workbench. Best of all, it boasts 32MB of PSRAM, Direct Memory Access (DMA) controllers, and AI instruction extensions to handle massive datasets without bogging down the system!

Integrated PoE

Instead of relying on wireless modules, this version of the ESP32-P4 IoT RedBoard integrates a tried-and-true PoE circuit to provide both network connectivity and power through a single cable. The board's MagJack RJ45 connector provides a dedicated 10/100Mbps Ethernet transceiver that handles wired data transmission. Because PoE power delivery is a major safety concern, we've included a built-in 5V/1.8A buck regulator that safely steps down the PoE voltage to power the main board and any connected peripherals.

I/O Options and High-Speed Peripherals

This IoT RedBoard comes packed with peripheral connection options, including 16MB of on-board Flash memory and a µSD card port to expand the board's storage even further! You'll have plenty of options when it comes to getting your hardware connected:

• Advanced Multimedia: Tap directly into the ESP32-P4's high-speed MIPI interfaces via two dedicated ribbon connectors for native camera and display integration.
• Additional Wired Connections: Includes a Qwiic connector for solderless I²C expansion, plus two USB-C ports; one dedicated to high-speed OTG USB and one for USB serial/JTAG.
• Interface Options: Breaks out six analogue I/O pins and 16 digital I/O pins, with dual-purpose support for UART, SPI, I2C, I3C, and TWAI™ interfaces, plus analogue signal-processing capabilities.
• Battery Management: A 2-pin JST connector lets you run the board off a LiPo battery, with onboard charging and monitoring circuits.

Designed for multi-platform use right out of the box, the board comes completely pre-programmed with MicroPython firmware.
