Electronic solid state switches allow the control of large current loads from a small switch, push button or digital signal.
Normally large currents must be switched by large mechanical switches as the internal contacts must be physically large and movement quick and robust to reduce wear from arcing.
These electronic based switches use MOSFETs to switch the load based on input from a low voltage / low current mechanical switch or digital input. Use of small control switches allows for multiple switches and better switch placement with only light signal wiring required.
