A capacitor is a very common passive electronic component that is used to store electrical charge.
Small ceramic capacitors are often used in robotics to suppress electrical noise generated by DC motors to avoid interference with a microcontroller and to extend the motor life by reducing arcing in the brushes.
Electrolytic capacitors store more charge than ceramic capacitors and are used more commonly for power filtering and power noise suppression.
